I had a problem area that needed to be dealt with! It was mostly old, useless yard equipment that had piled up under a covered shed behind the house. There were only two potentially problem items: a 20+ year old John Deere Gator with four flat tires and a heavy brush mower. I described the job and sent photos to Raw Moving for an estimate; agreed to their price; and Riley and Darrell came out the next day to deal with it. They were able to get everything but the Gator. I paid the full agreed price for the job, even though it was not completed and they promised that someone would come back for the Gator. It took a few days but Akeem, DJ and Devin came back on a late Sunday afternoon and, with a lot of effort, managed to get the Gator loaded and out of my shed. The entire crew of five that completed the job in two trips was courteous, professional and kept their word. It is so reassuring to know that there are still people who believe in hard work, integrity and treating people the way they would want to be treated. To anyone looking for an honest, professional, hard working team who do what they saying they're going to do, you can trust Raw Moving. Five StarsPosted on Google![]()

We had a great experience with this moving company! Riley and Darrell were professional, hardworking, and took excellent care of our furniture. They did a fantastic job wrapping and protecting everything and made sure the entire load was carefully secured for the move. Both guys worked hard from start to finish and were courteous and professional throughout the entire process. It was clear they took pride in doing the job right, which we really appreciated. I would definitely recommend them and would happily use them again!Posted on Google![]()

This was the second time we've used Akeem and his Raw Moving team, and like before they were awesome from start to finish. He was exceptionally courteous, responsive and attentive, and showed up at the start to make sure his guys, Darrell and Jake, had everything they needed to not just succeed but excel. Which they did. If you need it done right and on time at a reasonable price, this is your best bet.Posted on Google![]()

The team arrived on time and were very professional. Everything was unpacked and positioned as requested. Tony and I can't remember his name at the moment but they were both excellent.Posted on Google![]()

The movers were friendly, but the owner was very rude and disrespectful. I was quoted a price for a 4 hour move if ended up taking them double that amount of time. Which means I paid double the price. It would have been fine if they had taken care of my items and my property, but the condition they left my old house and my brand new home in was terrible. I spoke with the owner and he was rude and unprofessional. I sent the photos below to the owner after speaking with him, because he said we could come to some resolve. I didn’t hear from him again. This company took what was supposed to be an exciting time and turned it into a terrible memory.Posted on Google![]()

Moving Companies in Summerville SC — Why Local Experience Matters
Moving in Summerville is rarely as simple as loading boxes into a truck.
A newer build off Nexton Parkway has different access requirements than an older property near Azalea Park. An apartment in the Cane Bay corridor may need an elevator reservation and a scheduled move-in window. A larger home in The Ponds might involve stairs, a long driveway, and heavy furniture that will not clear a standard doorway.
The property matters as much as the distance.
We work in Summerville regularly — ZIP codes 29483, 29485, and 29486 — and we plan every move around the actual property. Addresses, square footage, stairs, elevator requirements, parking restrictions, gate codes, and specialty items all go into the quote before we give you a number.
Moving Services in Summerville, SC
You do not have to buy a full moving package if you only need help with part of the job.
Raw Moving provides:
Whether you are leaving a starter home in Pine Forest for a larger property in Nexton, relocating from an apartment near Main Street, or moving across town to Summers Corner, we handle loading, transport, unloading, and placement at your new address.
Large furniture has to navigate doorways, hallways, staircases, and elevators before it reaches the truck — then the same process happens again at the destination. We assess that route before anyone lifts anything.
An office move has different priorities from a household move. Staying operational matters.
We move desks, office chairs, filing cabinets, computers, equipment, documents, shelving, conference tables, and business furniture — scheduled around your operating hours, including evenings and weekends.
Businesses along Main Street, the Central Avenue corridor, and the Nexton commercial district all present different loading and access conditions. Tell us your building situation when you book.
Summerville’s apartment and townhome inventory has grown substantially, particularly around Nexton and the Cane Bay corridor.
Apartment moves involve requirements a house move does not:
– Elevator access or reservation
– A specific move-in window set by management
– Designated parking for the moving truck
– Gate access codes
– Building management approval
– Certificate of insurance
– HOA requirements
– Loading dock or service entrance access
Some communities require notice before a move-in. Check your property’s rules early and tell us what they need.
Pianos are not ordinary furniture.
An upright piano is heavy and difficult to manoeuvre through tight spaces. Grand pianos need additional planning because of size, weight, and components — and often disassembly before they will clear a doorway.
When requesting a piano moving quote, tell us:
– Piano type — upright, console, baby grand, or grand
– Pickup address
– Delivery address
– Number of stairs at each end
– Elevator information
– Narrow doorways or tight turns
– Where it needs to be positioned
Sometimes the truck is already rented and the destination is ready. You just need people who can handle the heavy lifting.
We provide moving labour for:
– Loading a rental truck
– Unloading a rental truck
– Loading a PODS or portable container
– Unloading a container
– Moving items into storage
– Clearing out a storage unit
– Moving furniture between rooms
– Handling heavy or awkward items
You provide the truck or container. We handle the physical work, furniture protection with pads and stretch wrap, and placement at the destination.
Large items need more planning than boxes.
Before moving a heavy piece we assess item weight, doorway width, stairs, flooring, corners, ceiling clearance, parking, long carries, and final placement.
This covers refrigerators, washers, dryers, sofas, sectionals, bedroom sets, exercise equipment, safes, and other bulky pieces.
Tell us about unusually large or heavy items before moving day so we can assign the right crew size.
Summerville Neighborhoods We Serve
Raw Moving serves all of Mount Pleasant including the following communities.
Nexton
Summerville's largest master-planned community, spanning single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments off Nexton Parkway. Nexton's layout uses rear alleys and compact front setbacks across much of the community, including Brighton Park and Northpoint. That means the distance from where a truck can legally park to your front door is often much longer than it looks — and the alleys themselves are frequently too tight for a 26-foot truck to enter. Many companies add a long-carry surcharge here. We do not — long carries are factored into your flat-rate quote before moving day, not added to the bill afterwards. Before your date, check with the Nexton POA about street parking rules and whether a loading space needs reserving. Tell us what they say and we will plan around it.
Cane Bay Plantation
A large master-planned community in Berkeley County with its own schools, shopping, and trail network. Cane Bay Boulevard is the main route in and out, and it backs up significantly during school drop-off and pick-up. We schedule around roughly 7:00–9:00 AM and 2:30–4:30 PM where your timeline allows. Cane Bay covers multiple separate neighborhoods, each with its own association — Del Webb and Four Seasons among them. Rules differ between them. Check what your specific neighborhood requires for move-in, particularly if the truck will block a shared driveway or thoroughfare. Some cul-de-sacs are tight for a large truck when neighbours have parked at the curb. Tell us your street when booking.
Carnes Crossroads
A mixed-use community built on traditional neighborhood design principles, straddling the Berkeley County line. The older sections have deliberately narrow streets — that is the design intent, not a flaw. Combined with parallel parking on both sides and mature oak canopy overhead, a 26-foot truck can struggle in places. If you are in an older section, tell us the street and we will bring the right size vehicle rather than discovering the problem on the day. Street parking is regulated here. Check the rules with your association before your move date.
Summers Corner
Built around walkability and shared green space off Highway 61. Main roads through the community are straightforward, but many homes sit on narrow winding loops or are served only by rear alleys — Sweetgrass in particular. A standard truck often cannot pull up to either the front or back door. When you book, tell us whether your home has alley access and roughly how far the nearest parking is from your door. That determines crew size more than bedroom count does.
Historic Downtown Summerville
Properties near Azalea Park and the historic district — home to the Flowertown Festival each spring — often have different parking arrangements, narrower access points, original staircases, and longer walks from the truck to the entrance. These moves need more care and usually more time than a comparable newer home.
Pine Forest, The Ponds, and Established Neighborhoods
We serve all established Summerville neighborhoods including Pine Forest, The Ponds, Legend Oaks Plantation, White Gables, and Wescott Plantation. If yours is not listed, call and we will confirm coverage.
How Much Do Movers in Summerville, SC Cost?
Moving costs vary from job to job. The main factors are:
- Home or apartment size
- Number of items
- Distance between properties
- Crew size required
- Stairs at either end
- Elevator access
- Long carries from truck to entrance
- Parking restrictions
- Parking restrictions
- Heavy furniture
- Specialty items such as a piano or hot tub
Raw Moving uses flat-rate pricing. Your quote is built around the details of your move rather than an hourly clock, and the price is confirmed before moving day.
The most useful thing you can do is provide both addresses, your inventory, access information, and any specialty items when requesting a quote. The more complete the detail, the more accurate the price.
Why Summerville Is Growing So Fast
Summerville has grown by more than 60% over the past quarter-century and remains one of the most in-demand places to live in the Charleston metro area. Major regional employers including Volvo Cars in Ridgeville and Boeing in North Charleston have brought an influx of workers and families looking for housing within commuting distance. Nexton, Cane Bay Plantation, Carnes Crossroads, and Summers Corner draw new residents who want newer homes, Dorchester School District 2 zoning, and a lower cost of living than the Charleston Peninsula. Summerville sits roughly 25 miles from downtown Charleston — close enough to commute, far enough to cost less. That growth is why demand for movers in Summerville stays high year-round, and why booking early matters between May and September.

Local Movers in Summerville, SC
A local move may cover only a few miles, but distance is not what determines the work.
A two-bedroom apartment with elevator access and parking near the entrance is a very different job from a two-bedroom home with stairs, a long driveway, and heavy furniture.
We build the quote around the property and inventory rather than treating every move the same.
Whether you are moving within Summerville, arriving from elsewhere in the Lowcountry, or leaving for another South Carolina city, we handle the work based on the actual scope.
Common Questions About Your Move
Do Stairs and Elevators Affect Moving Time?
They can, significantly.
Moving furniture from a ground floor directly to a truck is simpler than carrying it up or down several flights.
Elevators make apartment moves easier, but buildings often have a reservation system or a limited move-in window. Missing that window can delay the entire job.
Long carries matter too. In communities like Nexton where rear alleys and setbacks push the truck farther from the door, the crew carries everything a significant distance — and across a full household that adds up.
Tell us about stairs, elevators, parking, and long carries before we quote.
What Should I Tell Movers When Getting a Quote?
Give enough information to plan the actual job:
– Moving date
– Current address
– Destination address
– Number of bedrooms
– Approximate inventory
– Number of floors
– Stairs at each property
– Elevator availability
– Parking restrictions
– Gate codes
– HOA or building requirements
– Whether your home has alley access
– Large furniture
– Appliances
– Piano or specialty items
– Packing requirements
– Storage or container details
The more complete the information, the more accurate your flat-rate quote.
How Can I Make Moving Day Faster?
Preparation makes a measurable difference. Before the crew arrives
- Finish packing anything you are handling yourself
- Label boxes by destination room
- Separate items that are not being moved
- Clear hallways and doorways
- Confirm elevator reservations
- Confirm HOA or apartment move-in requirements
- Keep important documents and valuables with you
- Make sure the truck can reach the property
- Flag large or fragile items to the crew
- Keep pets and children away from active moving areas
What Are Red Flags With Movers?
The South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff advises consumers to ask a moving company for its PSC or ORS certificate number and verify it, ask about insurance coverage, and check the mover’s complaint history. Household goods carriers operating in South Carolina fall under ORS transportation oversight.
Be cautious if a mover:
- Will not explain how the pricing works
- Gives vague answers about insurance
- Refuses to provide business registration details
- Does not ask basic questions about your move
- Quotes a price without understanding your inventory
- Changes the agreed price without explanation
- Pressures you to pay before providing clear booking terms
- Has no verifiable review history
- Uses unmarked or rented trucks with no company branding
How Far in Advance Should I Book Movers in Summerville?
A few weeks of notice gives you the most scheduling options.
Book earlier if you are moving:
- At the end of the month
- During peak season, May through September
- On a weekend
- Into an apartment with a limited move-in window
- A large household
- An office
- Across South Carolina
- With specialty items such as a piano
If your date is flexible, give us a preferred range and we will find the best available slot.
Short-notice availability is sometimes possible. Call and ask.
How Much Should I Tip Movers?
Tipping is optional and always at your discretion.
If you choose to tip, the common range is 15–20% of the total move cost, split between the crew. On a $500 move that works out to roughly $75–$100 across the team.
Some people prefer a flat amount per mover instead — commonly $20–$40 each for a half-day move and $40–$60 each for a full day.
Consider tipping toward the higher end when the move involved:
– Multiple flights of stairs
– Heavy or awkward specialty items
– Long carries from the truck
– Lowcountry summer heat or heavy rain
– Extensive packing
– Work beyond what was originally scoped
Cold drinks and a break are always appreciated too.
What Is the Cheapest Day to Hire Movers?
Mid-month weekdays are generally the least competitive dates. Most leases end and most closings happen at the end of the month, which concentrates demand into the last few days. Weekends fill faster than weekdays for the same reason. If your date is flexible, ask about availability for a mid-week, mid-month slot. One caution: the cheapest date is not always the cheapest overall outcome. If moving a week early means paying for storage or a hotel, the saving disappears.
What Is the Cheapest Day to Hire Movers?
How Long Does a Local Move in Summerville Take?
Time depends on furniture volume, number of boxes, access, stairs, long carries, and how prepared everything is before the crew arrives.
These are approximate planning ranges — they do not represent hourly billing:
